In the game, the players need to construct coal mines, cotton mills, iron works, ports, and shipyards; dig canals; and build rails for transportation of goods. The players can take out loans if they run short on money but they don’t have to be repaid. However, this will reduce the income of the player throughout the game but is considered as an essential action and game strategy. It can be played by 3-4 players and the game lasts for about two hours. The game has been re-introduced as Age of Industry.
Age of Steam / Steam – After it has been released in 2002, this game has grown in size with the addition of plenty of new maps. The rules are updated but the gameplay is basically the same. The players compete against each other in building a network of rails that will be used to deliver goods to similarly-colored cities to increase income. One important thing to keep in the player’s mind is to take out loans for the operating capital which would be repaid to shareholders each time a player’s turn ends. The number of players depends on the map to be used for the game. 3-5 players are for standard maps but there are maps that can be played by 1-9 players.
