Roadster perfume is the latest Cartier fragrance for men to date. It was launched in 2008, and it is in line with Cartier’s tradition of creating perfumes drawing inspiration from existing collections of other luxury products in their portfolio with the same name. In this case, Roadster is a line of luxury watches; previous examples would be Delices y Le Baiser du Dragon from jewellery products, Must from leather products, and Pasha and Santos from a line of multiple products like watches, pens and luggages.
The official notes for this fragrance are: bergamot, mint, vanilla, patchouli, labdanum resin, and Cashemere woods, which has nothing to do with the wool, but it is a name used in perfumery to indicate a mix of different oils like cedarwood or musk.
The opening is classic and clean, with a soft fresh note of mint, and brief apparitions of mandarin or bergamot. There are also fresh aromas of wood with green notes, with a style on the verge of being aquatic. In the middle notes it feels less soapy than in the opening and somehow more loaded with powdery vanilla and non-dense wood, whose notes are similar to vetiver roots. There are also occasional notes of mint, which are integrated in the woods rather than appearing as separate. In the base notes there is a dominant note of vanilla, similar to the one in Must de Cartier perfume for women. This final phase is where this fragrance develops the most. There is a base of aromatic woods, plus resin and amber, and also a note of pepper that tingles the nose.
In the first two phases this Cartier perfume feels quite generic, without any remarkable development, but in the final phase there is an excellent note of vanilla, mixed with wood and resins. This perfume is suitable for a daily use, as long as the environment is not too formal. On the romantic side, although it lacks of seductive notes it is very masculine, especially in the final notes. To be (preferably) worn by men over 30 years of age.
